Château de la Bourdinière

The castel can be reached through a long path, in the shade of hundred-year-old trees, along a wide pond, and following the trail of the ancient drawbridge topped by the arms of place: stoat of Brittany duchy and Fleur de Lys of the French kingdom. The castel is constituted of a tower and battlements. It used to belong to Pierre Landais, the treasurer of Duke François the Second, leader of Brittany independence in the fifteenth century. The construction extends to old wine warehouses and is embellished by a formal garden.

La Bourdinière vineyard surrounds the castel. Its subsoil is mostly constituted of granite rock, precisely called “Granite of Château-Thébaud” because of numerous rifts. The rifts in the rock enable a deep rooting of vine stocks. This vineyard, mainly dedicated to Muscadet making, includes sixty-year-old vines of Melon de Bourgogne grape variety. Special vintages are made from it, such as the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie Prestige, Château de la Bourdinière.

The Château de la Bourdinière vineyards also preserve the Folle Blanche grape variety. At the entrance of the castel, on the left, it blooms on a light soil, where the granite comes through. The conditions of early warming are gathered to create a unique wine, the excellent Gros Plant du Pays Nantais.
