2014 – An Outstanding Vintage

2-10-2014 — posted in News.

The 2014 Vintage started greatly. The mild and wet winter, followed by a warm spring induced an early budburst, regular growth and qualitative flowering of the vineyard, announcing a great vintage.

In the vineyard, 2014 was an historic year. One of our best vineyard, after a 3 years rest was planted in Muscadet; this block is located at  the “Château de l’Aulnaye”, on a gentle slope above the Sèvre and the Maine rivers confluence, on a 500 million years old schist terroir. A strong focus was given throughout the year on formation pruning of our 2013 Sauvignon and Chardonnay plantations, soil management, leafing and green harvest of our Crus to enhance quality, terroir expression and environment care.

After a more contrasted summer, September offered us an outstanding climate, warm and dry (the driest since 1989, one of the best vintage of the century), that allowed great maturity of the grapes, perfect sanitary state with an however moderated yield. The grapes were harvested during the two last week of September under a very sunny weather. Wines are now finishing their fermentation and already show nice concentration, complexity and fruit maturity.

Another main event is the arrival of Vincent, the second son of the family, on the estate. He joins the family team after a 7 year experience of vineyard and wine-making consulting in different international vineyards. He will take care of vineyard management and wine-making aside Pierre. A new dynamic for Famille LIEUBEAU that announces great projects for 2015.
